This could have been a really good story but the shoddy writing, the boring action and the really lame dialog just ruined it.

The dialog comes right out of a Lifetime movie or soap opera. The Lone Ranger doesn't show up until the second half of the book and the climatic ending of the book is maybe 10 pages long. The book reads as if it were written for grade school aged kids which makes it boring for an adult. But, with hindsight and knowing the infamy of the movie, I would hazard a guess that the source material is to blame. I've never read anything by this author before so I can't tell you if the problem lies with the writer or the source material. Well, now I can tell you that this is not a good book. Of course that was a long time ago and I don't remember if I liked it or not. The book reads as I remember reading this book when it first came out because I was really excited about the upcoming movie. If you're into westerns or want to get into them, this is a good place to start.
I liked how the author makes it look like if the Lone Ranger and Tonto weren't in America's history, the country would be a lot less safe and prosperous. They train together and find criminals - like a wild western Batman and Robin. It tells a pretty good story about a young boy, John Reed, who meets Tonto and grows up with him by his side.
